  • The Coral Gables Art Cinema Presents: Even the Rain
    Apr 29, 2011 - 12:00am to May 5, 2011 - 12:00am
    Coral Gables Art Cinema
    260 Aragon Avenue

International star Gael Garcia Bernal (Y tu mama tambien, The Motorcycle Diaries, Bad Education) returns in Even the Rain (También la lluvia), the new critically acclaimed movie that was Spain’s official submission for this year’s Foreign Oscar. It makes its South Florida Premiere in 35mm playing from April 29 through May 5 at the Coral Gables Art Cinema. In this resonant movie with multiple, overlapping story lines, Garcia Bernal is a director heading up a Spanish film crew off to Bolivia to produce a historical drama about Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the New World. Even the Rain also encompasses the contemporary and powerful story of the indigenous leader of a revolt against the soaring cost of Bolivian water – controlled by foreign companies – who happens to be the lead actor in the Columbus film-within-a-film.

A special Opening Night event takes place on Friday, April 29 with a live video link Q & A projected on the Cinema’s movie screen with Bolivian actor and co-star Juan Carlos Aduviri. The evening includes a reception from 9:00 to 10:00 pm on the Cinema’s outdoor plaza that is complimentary for anyone who purchases a ticket for the 7:00 or 10:00 pm screenings that night, with tapas courtesy of Xixon restaurant, a tequila specialty bar courtesy of Bacardi, and traditional Bolivian music and dance performances.

Screenings will be introduced by the Consul of Bolivia in Miami, Milton Paniagua Leon. Special ticket prices for opening night are $15 general admission and $8 for members of the Cinema, and are available in advance through the website www.gablescinema.com, by phone at (786) 472-2249, or the box office in person during evening and weekend screening hours, as well as on opening night.  Click here to view the trailer.
