  • Family Day on Aragon
    Apr 13, 2013 - 12:00am to Apr 13, 2013 - 12:00am

Family Day on Aragon, held the second Saturday of every month, brings a variety of family-oriented activities to the Coral Gables Museum, Books & Books and Coral Gables Cinema, all in the 200 block of Aragon Avenue. Here’s what’s happening on Saturday, April 13:

11 a.m., Coral Gables Art Cinema: This month’s presentation is the animated fairytale the Tale of Despereaux based on the children’s book by Kate DiCamillo. The fates of three unlikely heroes — a misfit mouse who prefers reading books to eating them, an unhappy rat who schemes to leave the darkness of the dungeon, and a bumbling servant girl — are intertwined with that of the castle’s princess. The award-winning film features the voices Matthew Broderick, Dustin Hoffman, Emma Watson, Kevin Kline, Richard Jenkins and Frank Langella, among other critically acclaimed stars. The family-friendly film is rated G and is 94 minutes long. Also showing at 11 a.m. Sunday. Tickets are $5 and include a free popcorn and soda.

2 p.m., Coral Gables Museum: Discover the wonders of Italian architecture in the new Italian exhibits, The Unexpected Italy and When in Rome. Learn about architectural blueprints and how they are used to help design and plan buildings around the world. Become an architect and create blueprints for your own architectural masterpiece. Then, participate in a gallery scavenger hunt for your chance to win a special treat. Cool down with some delicious Italian gelato from Peterbrooke Chocolatier at a discounted price, and go home with fun and crazy balloon art by Irina the Balloon Artist! Admission is free.

3 p.m., Coral Gables Museum: Enjoy a musical performance by the Coral Gables Music Club scholarship students presenting selected pieces the whole family can enjoy. Admission is free. For more information, call 305.603.8067.
