  • Coral Gables Gallery Night

    The Museum’s first First Friday Gallery Night with exhibitions in place will be a fun, festive and educational affair!  

    At 7:00pm, John Stuart, guest curator, presents a lecture based on his Museum exhibition, “Bringing Beauty Into Our Lives:  Art and Architecture  in Coral Gables During the New Deal”.  Stuart, who chairs the Department of Architecture at FIU, is a registered architect and principal of John Stuart Architecture with research interests focused on architectural design, its contexts, and its impact.  Professor Stuart’s research has been supported by grants and fellowships from several organizations including the Graham Foundation for Advanced Study of the Fine Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. He won the 2004 Miami American Institute of Architects Award for Design Excellence for his project “Time Zone,” the chapter’s highest award.  His designs are part of the permanent collection of the Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library at Columbia University.  In 2003 he was a visiting associate professor at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and has served as a guest critic on design reviews at Cornell, Harvard, and Yale among others. Admission is a reduced $5. The galleries open at 6:00pm.

    Also, at the Museum that evening, Zarzuela in the Plaza:  a cocktail party featuring a musical performance by Florida Grand Opera’s Young Artists. The reception is presented by Crescendo Circle and the Opera Guild, two of Florida Grand Opera’s affiliate groups, and the Coral Gables Museum to promote FGO’s upcoming Zarzuela with tenor Plácido Domingo.  Entrance fee to party,  $30 for members of affiliated organizations, $40 advance in advance and $50 and includes food and beverages, music and Museum admission.  For more information, click here.
