  • Cinco de Mayo at Talavera

    This May, celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a month-long tribute to special Mexican holiday at Talavera Restaurant in Coral Gables, recently named one of the best Mexican restaurants in the United States by Travel + Leisure. Often mistaken as Mexico’s Independence Day, Cinco de Mayo is actually a tribute to the “Batalla de Puebla” in 1862, during which Mexico defeated Napoleon III’s French army, instilling an unprecedented sense of pride in the Mexican people.

    Executive Chef Oscar del Rivero, a native of Mexico City, created a special a la carte menu as a nod to traditional Mexican ingredients and cooking methods.

    Oval shaped tortilla made with blue corn masa and topped with “salsa roja taquera,” white onion, cilantro, cream and queso añejo

    Tinga Poblana Tostadas 5

    A classic “Poblano” dish prepared with chicken, chorizo and chipotles; served with tostadas, lettuce, avocado and cheese

    Pair Chef del Rivero’s menu with Talavera’s signature margarita sampler and enjoy six miniature margaritas of your choice, including the French Margarita with Chambord specially created for Cinco de Mayo, the vibrant Hibiscus Margarita with hibiscus tea and agave, or the Spicy Coconut Mezcal Margarita with crema de coco and chile de arbol.

    Live entertainment will be offered May 3 through May 5 during dinner service with menu available May 1 through May 31, 2013.
