Streetscape Bulletin – September 12-18, 2016


We’re excited to share with you all the Streetscape construction components that have been completed this week.
• Trench for on-street drainage system at block 100 is complete.
• Connection of new drainage pipe to new drainage structure on the 200 block.
• Installation of electrical conduits needed for street lighting at the south side of the 100 block.
• Storm sewer drainage work from Ponce de Leon Boulevard to Galiano Street on Giralda Avenue.
Simultaneous roadway reconstruction work along Miracle Mile from Ponce de Leon Boulevard to Galiano Street
and Giralda Avenue from Ponce de Leon Boulevard to Galiano Street began last week. This work includes existing roadway demolition, trench excavation and drainage work. The drainage work encompasses installation of high performance storm sewer drainage pipe, installation of concrete and PVC structures in order to collect part of the storm and roof drain water runoff. Work on the second half (east side) of block 100 has started and will continue for the rest of the week.
Pedestrian access to the stores will be maintained at all times.
Miracle Mile & Giralda Avenue
MIRACLE MILE CONSTRUCTION – from September 12, 2016 to September 18, 2016
Block 000 – Starting 9/15 the eastbound right lane will be closed in order to start removing asphalt from the existing lane. This operation is needed in order to start the excavation for the new drainage system.
Block 100 – Half block drainage work is complete!
Drainage work will continue on the second half block on the east side of block 100. Our goal is to finish the drainage and back fill the trench by the end of the week.
In progress:
• The installation of new storm sewer drainage pipe and structures on the south side of block 100 towards the east.
• The installation of electrical conduits on the south side of the 100 block towards the east.
• Back filling and compacting drainage system (east side of block 100) with special engineered soil will be starting this week.
Block 200 – New trees coming your way!!!
New tree installation will start at block 200 this week. Most of the installation at this time will be oak trees.
One lane of traffic will remain open at all times on the south side of Miracle Mile from Le Jeune Road to Douglas Road.
GIRALDA AVENUE CONSTRUCTION – 100 BLOCK – from September 12, 2016 to September 18, 2016
The second and final phase of drainage installation will start mid-week.
• Phase 1 drainage backfilling will start this week.
• Trench excavation for phase 2 will start this week and continue with the installation.
The street is now closed to vehicular traffic; however, pedestrian access to the businesses will be maintained at all times for the duration of construction.
Valet Service is available to your clients. A Valet Station is located at the northeast corner of Ponce de Leon Boulevard and Giralda Avenue and another station is located on the west side of Galiano Street between Giralda Avenue and Aragon Avenue.
The City is assisting businesses looking to renovate storefronts during the Miracle Mile & Giralda Avenue Streetscape project. City permit fees will be waived for all outdoor façade improvements, as well as improvements to the sidewalk pavers within private property along storefronts fronting or adjacent to the Streetscape project. Only businesses within the Project’s assessment area are eligible. The program is only available during the Streetscape construction period.
To help businesses, City staff will assist shop owners in completing paperwork and monitoring plan review and inspection processes. Impact fees, taxes, special assessments and/or permit fees associated with other government entities will not be waived.
Paperwork required for this program includes:
• Two copies of signed and sealed engineering and architectural drawings (including structural calculations).
• Two copies of the Product Control Notice of Approval (NOA) from Miami Dade County or State of Florida.
• Floor plans and elevations should be drawn at minimum 1/4”=1’0” scale.
• Also provide photographs of existing conditions for reference.

The City of Coral Gables will be providing Free Parking Garage Validation Vouchers to the businesses affected by the Streetscape Construction. Each business on Miracle Mile and Giralda Avenue will receive validation vouchers to provide FREE parking for their customers, at their discretion. The vouchers are being distributed through the Business Improvement District. Please send someone from your business to pick up vouchers at the BID office at 220 Miracle Mile, Ste. 234. The BID office is open from 9 am – 5 pm.
