A Progressive Dinner Down Giralda Avenue

localGiralda Avenue is one of Coral Gables’ busiest streets for drinking and dining. There are so many tasty restaurants on Giralda that it could take you years to really get to know each and every one. May we recommend speed-dating for restaurants down Giralda, a quick way to get a taste of many places in one night: a progressive dinner.

What’s a progressive dinner? It’s a dinner, over the course of an evening, spread across several restaurants and destinations. Think of it like a bar crawl but with a multi course meal attached. There’s no official progressive dinner that you can buy tickets to, but have a creative evening with friends and organize it as an alternative to the regular sit-down meal.

We’ll recommend an itinerary, but feel free to put your own spin on it or make some impromptu pit stops along the way!

Graziano’s: Set Graziano’s, at the top of Giralda, right off Le Jeune, as your meeting place. The bar is the perfect place to let you friends trickle in while you sip on a classic cocktail. Right now, I’m recommending the Negroni, an Italian favorite that’s the perfect refreshing summer beverage. If you’re the type who likes to start your night with a bit of celebratory bubbly, the St. Germain Cocktail served with brut champagne sounds equally delicious. Groups might want to dig right into a pitcher of a signature cocktail or sangria to get the party started.

La Taberna Giralda: Tapas are the perfect first stop for some light, shareable bites and drinks. Order a tabla of Spanish cheese and meats and a few tapas like the morcilla frita con piperrada (fried blood sausage with sausage and peppers) or the classics like patatas bravas and croquetas de jamón serrano. Keep it light. The trick here to order so that everyone gets a few bites and isn’t bogged down by a heavy meal.

The Local: Time for more drinks. The Local is known for their delicious, chef-driven gastropub food, but the signature cocktails are equally as delicious. Order the truffle fries for the table and a round of cocktails or craft beer. If you’re looking for something to cool you down after the little walk from Taberna Giralda in the warm summer months, go with the Jalisco Beach Resort (Ancho Reyes, Velvet Falernum, Fresh Cucumber, mint, Mescal Rinse and Don Julio Reposado).

Spritz: Everybody loves Italian, so stop into Spritz and get a few pizzas for the table. Order a blend of traditional pies, like the Quattro Formaggi, and a few funky ones like the Mediterranean (goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, black olives and pesto sauce). By now you probably want to switch to wine, as your waiter for a recommended pairing.

Pasion Del Cielo: It’s already been a long night with lots of food, so grab a coffee at Pasion Del Cielo and get a little caffeine into your blood.

The Bar: Time for a nightcap! Or maybe a few. Grab a drink at The Bar and get ready to dance off all that pizza.
