Style & Bites: Happy Hour in Coral Gables

Sometimes, it’s important to go back to basics. What do I want in life? What is my core philosophy? Where can I get a good happy hour in Coral Gables?

Whether you’re walking over after work or heading in from your house into the neighborhood, you should take advantage of one of the basic pleasures of living in Coral Gables: a lively happy hour scene. These are only some of the many Happy Hour deals taking place daily, so stay tuned for updates!

Ichimi, the new ramen place, has had everyone buzzing about their noodles, the small Japanese dishes and now a happy hour every day from noon to 7 PM. Try a few of their signature izakaya dishes at reduced prices, or go for the bun tasting trio (usually 3 for $10) for just $6 and sample the Fried Oyster, Pork Belly and Brisket. From noon to three, not your traditional happy hour hours, you can taste their 24 hour ramen broth for a bit less than the usual fixed price. Of course, you’ll need some beer or wine to make it truly a happy hour, look out for the $7 sake and craft imported beer.

At Bulla the 5 – 7 PM happy hour every day gets the bar roaring – every single day. If you’re looking for a spot to join in on a party, this is the place. Order light Spanish tapas to share or stay and indulge in a delicious dinner while sipping house made cocktails, beers and wine from their extensive wine list. Friendly service, well-priced drinks and a cheese tray? What could be happier?

On a Friday night, those in the know are at The Bar, where ladies drink free and all the drinks are marked down. The rest of the week is just as happy – they offer 2-4-1 drinks on select cocktails, $1 draughts and $2 off pitchers. Add karaoke, In The Biz and Whiskey Wednesday and you know you’re getting more than just a good deal, you’re getting entertainment and a couple of new friends, too.

Wine-os are at Uvaggio after a long, unhappy work day. Here’s how they put their unique position on happy hours, “2 for 1 drinks sound good, sure if you’re in a frat and don’t mind rotgut booze and grocery store wines.” Instead of a traditional happy hour, they’re serving an aperitivo where the chef sends you a few small bites after your wine or beer or you can order a charcuterie and cheese board for $30 to pair with your wine. As always, the staff will help you pick the very best wine for your taste and mood.

At Benihana, you can get your night started early at happy hour and stay for dinner. Happy hour specialties include nigiri, teriyaki wings, edamame and specialty sushi starting at $3.  Wash it down with their selection of beer, premium well drinks and specialty cocktails starting as low as $3. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the Blue Ocean Punch Bowl for two.

The 4-8 PM happy hour at Red Koi includes half off cocktails and deals that will make you and your friends want to stay for the night. Especially on Wednesday night, when it’s Girls’ Night Out and bubbly is free for ladies upon arrival.  Extend the happy on Thursdays and be part of the Karaoke Klub.

One of the newest additions to the Mile is 5411 Empanadas. Coming straight from Argentina by way of Chicago, this authentic foodie heaven offers daily BOGO (Buy One, Get One) deals on all drinks from 4:30 to 9 p.m. If you’re around earlier in the day, you can still enjoy a great deal: Order 3 empanadas and a glass of wine or Estrella Damm beer for only $10!

At Bellmont, Early Birds can enjoy one free tapas dish/appetizer per table with meal order, plus 50% off wines. Arrive between 5 and 6:30 p.m. and choose between Huevos Rotos, Fried Chickpeas with Spanish Sausage, Cider Sausage with Goat Cheese and many more along with a fine selection of whites and reds by the glass.

In Coral Gables, every hour is happy hour, but it’s safe to say there are a few hours that have a little more happiness in them right when everyone gets out of work.
