Gables Bites: Advance Appetizer Picks for Restaurant Week

Attention foodies! Coral Gables Restaurant Week is back! What’s the best part about it? It’s not just one week, it’s three whole weeks of deals, discounts and specials at Coral Gables’ best restaurants. Chances are, you’re a bit like me- you have a busy life and schedule of events. Even the ones you really want to go to, come and go before you know it.

The good people of Downtown Coral Gables understand, that’s why you have from June 8th – 28th to taste your way through the Gables.

Personally, I’m a huge fan of a set menu. I eat everything (except Fritos, the only food on my “Will Not Eat” list), so a pre-fixe menu is perfect for me. I don’t have to worry about making the tough decisions that come with eating out. I put my full trust and faith in the chefs of Coral Gables to guide me towards the best dishes on their menus.

Before Restaurant Week officially kicks off I thought I’d sift through the menus and share a few of the appetizers I’m already planning on eating:

Vieras Rellenas de Espinaca & Manchego (Scallops stuffed with baby spinach & Manchego cheese) from Bellmont Spanish Restaurant. I haven’t yet visited Bellmont, but their sleek interior and imported jamon menu has been calling my name – now I have an excuse.

Polenta Meatball (Buffalo meatballs, ricotta cheese, tomato ragu over cheese polenta) from Caffe Vialetto. I never make polenta at home because my first boss was an Italian who told me horror stories of hours spent stirring polenta on Sundays, so I always order it when I’m out. This appetizer at Caffe Vialetto sounds particularly delicious.

Ceviche Traditional (Slices of fresh fish marinated lightly in lime juice and seasoned with Peruvian limo chili, fresh cilantro and onion. Garnished with sweet potato and choclo – Peruvian giant corn) from Divino Ceviche. You say ceviche, I’m there.

Falafel from Maroosh. Falafel is one of my all time favorite foods and I love Maroosh’s authentic ambiance and food. Middle Eastern food feels right for the summer.
