Gables Bites: St. Patrick’s Day Takes Over Coral Gables

As someone named Patricia, the female version of Patrick, I particularly like St. Patrick’s Day. There are a few other reasons why: I love a dress code (it’s always fun to dig out some green from my closet), I love Guinness and I love the Coral Gables annual St. Patrick’s Day party at JohnMartin’s.

This year, I’ll be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with even more fervor because John Martin’s Irish Pub is giving me an excuse. Miracle Mile’s favorite Irish pub is throwing a week of festivities for St. Patty’s starting on March 12th and running through March 17th. Martin Lynch, co-owner of John Martin’s put it best, “The celebration started 25 years ago and it has become the place everyone wants to celebrate, even if you are only Irish for the day.”

This year they’re hosting Irish Trivia on Thursday night, so be sure you freshen up on your Liam Neeson and Colin Farrell facts. Friday night is Karaoke by Irish bands like Van Morrison and The Cranberries, Saturday is an Irish sing-a-long and Sunday is Irish Brunch. The Irish might not be known for their food, but the brunch menu sounds like the perfect way to dive into home-style Irish cooking like Corned Beef and Cabbage and Shepherd’s Pie. For a very reasonable price of $25.50 per person, I think we should all try our luck, drink some Irish whiskey and then join in the open mic night.

Tuesday is finally the big day and they’ll be partying all day long – with a bagpiper! You don’t want to miss it, but be sure you remember to wear green or you’ll be guaranteed pinches all night long!
