Gables Style: Make Small Business Saturday your Business

10247306_888672751150649_1570898590672027427_nHave you heard the buzz about Small Business Saturday? If you haven’t heard about this nationwide initiative, you’ve certainly heard about the philosophy behind it – shop local and shop small. Small Business Saturday is a kind of anti-Black Friday and big retail. It’s a way to get holiday shoppers to think a bit smarter about where they’re spending their money buying gifts for their loved ones. Luckily, in Coral Gables, you can shop smart and find everything you’re looking for, for everyone on your list.

Why not spend your money by supporting a neighborhood business, a long-time area staple… a mom and pop shop instead of big box retail?

Downtown Coral Gables is the perfect place to explore on Small Business Saturday. Here’s what I recommend: take the day, walk around and explore the little stores you regularly walk past. Don’t worry too much about who you have to shop for or what’s left on your “to buy” list. Just enjoy the shopping experience, chat up the store owners, and have a good look around. At Books & Books they’ll have local authors in-store for meet and greets. Ask the authors what they’re reading, if they have any favorite books as of late, or whatever literary questions you’ve had swirling around in your mind.

If you have laser focused holiday shopping on the mind, go ahead and take a more serious approach; take advantage of the Small Business Saturday deals going on around town. You can read all about them here.
