Gables Style & Bites: Classic Gables Spots

subserious Entry avant garde abbracci

Today, I thought we’d take a look at some long-established Coral Gables spots. As one of the oldest neighborhoods in this baby city that we call home, Coral Gables has some businesses that have been doing their thing for generations now. So, cheers to them, and may they serve many more generations to come!

Sub Serious
For five or six bucks Sub Serious will serve you up a fresh grilled sub on the softest roll in town. This place is nothing fancy and I love that about it, because sometimes you don’t want to try the latest pan-fusion, gastro tapas bar, you just want a sub for lunch. The sign says they’ve been open since 1948, but we weren’t able to confirm that. Either way, we know they’ve been serving subs in the Gables for several decades.

Snow’s Jewelers
Snow’s tag line is “Your hometown jeweler since 1958,” which means they’ve sold a whole lotta engagement rings and shiny things over half a century. They’ve just recently moved to a new location at 270 Miracle Mile, so you can go visit them there if you’re in the market for a bit of fine jewelry. You know you can trust them because so many before you have.

Caffe Abbracci
Caffe Abbracci may not be the oldest restaurant in Coral Gables, but there is a distinctly old school vibe at this 25 year old classic Italian restaurant. Dine in a dark and sexy dining room under blown glass chandeliers. Don’t be surprised if you hear a waiter ask someone if they want “the usual.” It’s that kind of regular’s spot.

Avant-Garde Salon & Spa
This salon, right on Miracle Mile, has been styling the Gables for more than forty years. Avant-Garde is an institution, so if you’ve lived in the Gables for some time, you’ve more than likely had an experience at Avant-Garde. For me, it was styling my hair there for prom.
