The Coral Gables Farmers Market, held Saturdays right in front of City Hall with George Merrick proudly looking over, only has one week left! Whether you haven’t yet been or if you’re a frequent visitor, this is your last chance to stock up on all the delicious, handmade treats that this market has to offer. So, consider your Saturday morning booked!

I have memories as a kid of visiting the Coral Gables Farmers Market, held in the same location and looking pretty much exactly as it does today, at least in my blurry eye’s mind. That’s where I met Madeline and the Bernstein Bears, who would visit the market and read stories in the grassy area, and where my mom let me pick out strawberries that would stain my clothes.

Today, I walk over regularly on Saturday mornings and am sad to see the market close for the season.

For me, it’s all about the fish dip. I literally run to Captain Greg’s stand to pick up his smoked marlin and Wahoo fish dip. Captain Greg, an Australian former cruise director, is always waiting with a captain’s hat on and a cooler full of this beloved treat. Usually, I’ll take one of each and sometimes I add on a container of his handmade mozzarella or smoked Gouda.

Usually, I bring home more than I can carry. Recently, I bought some jalapeño bread that I would buy again and again, loaded up on fresh vegetables of all kinds, tried rosemary nuts, and indulged in some really delicious empanadas (blue cheese and caramelized onion!).
