Those exciting sights, scents and sounds you are experiencing can only mean one thing: SushiSamba in Coral Gables is finally open!

Folks who once dined at Norman’s 180 will barely recognize the space. Dark woods and muted colors may have once set the scene, but now orange, green and yellow “ribbons” soar across the ceilings. The aroma of a wood-burning oven fills the air and energizing music keeps the vibe buzzing and lively, while chefs chop and cook in plain view.

Expect a lot of firsts from this latest SushiSamba, reports their public relations rep, Joana Cisowska. “I believe we have the first outdoor bar in Coral Gables and the first robata grill [here],” she says. The company behind the concept also used this exciting opening to launch a new beverage program, new dessert program and their first breakfast menu. Cisowska says they hope to eventually also have the largest premium sake display in all of Florida, also.

Richard Woods, Samba Brands Management’s head of cocktail and spirit development, flew to town in order to create custom beverages for the concept. He says he worked closely with SushiSamba’s chefs to source local ingredients for the cocktails. New creations, some incorporating ginger, passionfruit, yuzu and—of course—sugarcane, will reflect Japan, Peru and Brazil, the three countries the brand fuses to create epicurean magic.

Stop in soon and try exotic new flavor combinations like the wood-oven roasted cauliflower with aji panca and chimichurri-yogurt plate, bone marrow with shallot and yayamomo jam entree, and the red chocolate with chili pepper dessert.
