Coral Gables has its share of French and French-inspired eateries, offering everything from authentic fare to modern American interpretations of dishes we adore. The first spot that comes to mind for most is Le Provencal, helmed by a chef who was born and raised in Provence, natch.  Many locals and visitors have returned time and time again to partake in hors d’oeuvres like baked brie with apricot preserves and entrees including bouillabaisse du Provencal, filet mignon with béarnaise and frog legs.

It’s less traditional neighbor up Miracle Mile, Angelique Euro Cafe, takes the menu beyond France, but Francophiles flock to this delightful spot for favorites like escargot a la Provencal, tuna nicoise and chicken cordon bleu.

The new Pete’s Authentic Cooking, on the other hand, doesn’t even claim to be a French eatery,  but the owner hails from France and we can taste his influence in many of the dishes he designed, especially the flavorful soups, mini viennoiseries and fresh baguettes.

Have a serious sweet tooth? Though most of the French eateries in town offer amazing desserts, two have an incomparable selection: Le Boudoir and Chocolate Fashion. Le Boudoir looks just as tempting from the outside as it does inside, but the sight of their croissants, panini Nutella and prismatic macarons are enough to make any mouth water, even after a plate of boeuf bourguignon. And there’s no place better to people-watch while sipping a latte outside. Chocolate Fashion’s pastry case is also a decadent statement, inviting diners to try a taste of assorted truffles, fruit tarts or any of their dense and elegant cakes, that is, if they still have room in their bellies after a satisfying breakfast of quiche Lorraine and brioche French toast.

Of course, we can’t conclude this roundup of fabulous French eateries without mentioning the oh-so-Parisian bakery coming soon, Le Macaron French Pastries! We can already taste those tiny crisp and creamy morsels. Until then, bon appétit!
