Gables Bites: Mother’s Day on the Mile

The bottom line on Mother’s Day is, well, you’ve gotta make mama happy, so the smartest move would be to ask her where she’d like to dine. However, in the spirit of making her life easier, at least for this one day each year (May 12, in case you weren’t aware), here are some local places offering special Mother’s Day menus that you might wish to share with dear ol’ mom.

If she’s a carnivore, consider both Morton’s or Fleming’s. For Mother’s Day, Morton’s The Steakhouse is offering a three-course menu for $59 per person. Offerings include lobster bisque, jumbo shrimp Alexander, a 6-ounce center cut filet mignon, honey-chili glazed salmon, chicken Bianco, shrimp scampi capellini and a double-cut Prime pork chop. Fleming’s Steakhouse is offering a three-course brunch menu, too, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. For less than $37, they can enjoy dishes like baked brioche French toast, egg strata or prime rib, and can indulge in a walnut turtle pie for dessert. Mom’s also get a $25 dining card that they can redeem later (hopefully, they’ll use it on you!).

Foodie moms should know Angelique Euro Cafe has a four-course dinner running Thursday

(May 9) through Sunday (May 12). The cost is $39 per person and includes decadent selections like gorgonzola-crusted sirloin and seafood risotto. On Saturday and Sunday (May 11 and 12) you can also indulge in an a la carte brunch with a Spanish chorizo tortilla Catalan, a Portobello burger with gruyère, or a Monte Cristo.

Or make a reservation at John Martin’s for its buffet, offered from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., if you have one of those hard-to-please mothers. Moms can graze on numerous salads, egg dishes from a breakfast station, entrees like Shepherd’s pie and dolphin francaise, and desserts, and it will only cost you $35 per person.

Is she a Southern gal? If so, mom will love Swine’s Mother’s Day menu: biscuits ‘n gravy with smoked rabbit, warm spinach salad with cheese blintzes and rose-scented caramel custard. (You can also get her tipsy on the $10 frozen mimosas.)

Wherever you go and whatever you decide, surely she’ll know she’s appreciated. Of course, bringing flowers wouldn’t hurt, either. And it wouldn’t kill you to call her sometimes, you know.
