Gables Style: Trend Report- New York Fashion Week 2013

2/19/13

Black, pajamas, graphic prints and cuts, leather, Mod and florals — oh my! New York Fashion Week was both whimsical and wacky.  While New York braved a blustery blizzard (oh, Nemo!),  we here in sunny Miami can peep the trends that revved up the catwalks last week at the Mercedes-Benz Lincoln Center tents.

BLACK IS BACK
New York Fashion Week overall showed a lot of wearable clothing and along that theme, one of the biggest trends this year was the dominance of black. So it’s safe to say black is the new black if that makes any sense — which, of course it does!

PAJAMAS IN PUBLIC
Marc Jacobs, like myself, is a fan of wearing PJs in public. In fact, the loose pajama silhouette peppered many runways. Yay for lounge wear!

GET GRAPHIC
A look at Calvin Klein, Derek Lam and Michael Kors’ Spring 2013 collections tell a graphic story in the shape of illustrative prints and cuts.  Seamed dresses with exaggerated peek-a-boo bra details followed one after another.

CLEVER WITH LEATHER
Leather was huge for Fall it’s evident this trend has sticking power. Leather was omnipresent at the Proenza Schouler, BCBG, DKNY and Rodarte shows.

MOD SQUAD
One only need glimpse Louis Vuitton’s latest ad campaign to figure of that Mod is back with a vengeance. Silhouettes and prints were mad for Mod at Marc Jacobs, too.

AWESOME BLOSSOMS
Over at Phillip Lim and Oscar de la Renta, feminine florals sprinkled the catwalks. Simply said, nothing quite says, “ladylike” like a passel of pastel peonies.

Score these happening trends as dictated by New York Fashion Week at any one of Downtown Coral Gables’ chic fashion-forward boutiques.
