Gables Bites: New Restaurants Arriving Soon
By Riki Altman
Great restaurants are always popping up around here, but in the next few months folks are going to be treated to some truly exciting, new concepts.
Now open ( at 2330 Salzedo St) for dinner for example, is Bread + Butter, labeling itself a “Cuban gastrocounter.” The brainchild of chef/owner Alberto Cabrera, this Havana-cafeteria-meets-New-York-gastropub will be offering breakfast, lunch and dinner by the end of February. Plan to partake in dishes like bao buns with pan con lechon and cortadito milkshakes. Check the website for more updates.
Another joint with Cuban influence coming soon is Azúcar, a Cuban restaurant originally from New Jersey boasting a bar and cigars. Their website claims their Cuban sandwich took down Bobby Flay’s, but us Miamians will get the final say.
Craving buñuelos de bacalao and patatas bravas? Por Fin is reopening its doors on February 18 with a new name, Bulla Gastrobar, labeled “a fun, casual gathering place inspired by the most popular tapas restaurants in Spain.” Guests can also expect to indulge in charcuterie and cheese at the first floor’s central bar while they people-watch.
European cuisine can also be had at 345 Caffé Italiano, though the environment promises to be much more casual. Paninis, espresso, crepes and gelato are menu items promised on the company’s website. No opening date has been announced yet.
Sometime this spring, SUSHISAMBA Coral Gables will be welcoming diners, too. Construction is well underway at the old Norman’s 180 space in the Westin and PR reps state two bars, a private room, dining room and outdoor café can be expected. In addition to the kitchen and sushi bar, the restaurant will have a robata grill and will serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and brunch on the weekends.
So, there you have it. Not only will we have myriad options for three meals each day, but we’ll be able to eat our way around the globe with nary a passport!
